Reception - Mrs K. Barrow
Welcome to Grasshoppers!
We are all looking forward to our first term together. During the first few weeks in Reception the children will be making lots of new friends and learning the classroom and school rules. Mrs Barrow will be the class teacher, supported by Mrs Ennis and Mrs Shaw.
Our topic for the Autumn term is ‘All About Me!’ We will start the year with ‘Supertato’ by Sue Hendra. This will give the children the opportunity to talk about what they are good at and what they enjoy doing. The children will then focus on the books by Jill Murphy ‘The Large Family.’
After October half term the focus will turn to ‘People Who Help Us.’ Grasshoppers and Dragonflies will explore different modes of transport through helicopters, fire engines, police cars and motorbikes and rescue boats.
The children will be taking part in story telling activities, sharing their likes and dislikes with their new friends, talking about their family, getting to know each other, using basic maths skills and settling into their new environment.
Reading packs and homework activities will go home once the children are in school full time. Meetings will be arranged for parents to explain these in more detail. Keep checking your child’s reading folder for letters and further information.
PE will take place on Monday mornings and Forest School sessions on Wednesday afternoons. More details to follow.
Finally, feel free to come and see a member of the team if you have any questions or concerns.
