Welcome to Dragonflies class.
Our whole school topic this term is ‘Survival of the fittest.’ During the topic we will be exploring different environments and habitats when looking at bears. We will also be learning about our bodies and naming body parts. The children will learn about caring for our teeth. We will build on the children’s independence by encouraging skills such as dressing and undressing and putting coats on. During out creative work the children will explore colour mixing. We will also be looking at the artist Kandinsky and the children will create their own art work.
In English we will be reading a range of traditional tales. We will be using story-telling and role play to learn the stories. The children will also be looking at non-fiction texts and will follow instruction texts to make some yummy bread. We will continue learning phonemes using our Read, Write Inc scheme. Please continue to support your child with their reading and phonemes at home. Remember each time your child reads they will receive a shiny. We are also introducing the children to our reading ladder which you will receive more information on at the start of the spring term.
During our maths work we will continue working on number recognition to 10. The children will also learn about number bonds to 10. We will be adding and subtracting numbers to 10. We will also continue learning about 2D and 3D shapes and explore patterns.
PE will continue to take place on Mondays. Our focus this term will be gross motor skills where the children will create different shapes with their bodies and explore travelling. Forest School sessions will continue too. If you haven’t already done so please could you provide your child with a set of old clothes to be kept at school. We have a class set of waterproofs and plenty of spare wellies but we have no old clothes if your child gets dirty or wet. They will wear these every week during Forest School sessions. Arms and legs must be covered too so long sleeved t-shirts and long trousers are essential.
Finally, feel free to come and see a member of the team if you have any questions.
