Welcome to Dragonflies class. The staff are really looking forward to a new term after such an unsettled and difficult year so far. It will be great to finally get to know you and your child. We hope everyone is looking forward to the autumn term as much as we are! We will be working hard to ensure your child settles in well and makes lots of new friends.
Mrs Shaw will be the class teacher supported by Mrs Ennis and Mrs Tabberer. Mrs Ennis is also our Early Years family support worker.
Our topic for the Autumn term is ‘All About Me!’ and we will start the year with a selection of familiar books;
Starting School by Janet and Alan Alberg
Peace at Last by Jill Murphy
Titch by Pat Hutchins
Owl Babies by Martin Waddell
Spot’s Harvest by Eric Hill.
We will finish this half term by reading the story ‘Zog’ by Julia Donaldson. This will give the children the opportunity to talk about what they are good at and what they enjoy doing.
The focus after October half term will be ‘People Who Help Us.’ Dragonflies and Grasshoppers will learn about the emergency services and people who help us within our communities and families.
The children will be taking part in story telling activities, sharing their likes and dislikes with their new friends, talking about their family, getting to know each other, using basic maths skills and settling into their new environment.
Reading packs and homework activities will go home once the children are in school full time. PE will take place on Tuesdays and Fridays. Remember your child can come to school in their PE kit for the whole session due to our current situation.
