Eagles

Welcome to Eagles class I'm Miss Hobbs and I am the class teacher. Miss Gazzard and Mrs Bowen also work in Eagles class.

Our main topic for this term is ‘Survival of the Fittest’ with the focus being on Science. In Spring 1, we will learn about the names and functions of the parts of a plant. We will learn about the process of pollination, fertilisation and seed dispersal. In Spring 2, we will learn about living things and animals. We will understand the food chain process and what living things need to survive. We will also learn about the human body including the skeletal system, digestive system and teeth and their functions.

For our hook for this term, the children will design and make a shoebox garden. We will think about how gardens can help with supporting our mental health and include a space for this.

For our hook in Spring 2, we will be learning important life skills at SkillZone!

We are hoping to take part in a mega assault course which will come into school!

In English we will start off by writing an explanation text to explain the process of plants. We will look up traditional tales like Jack and the Beanstalk and change the well-known story into a Twisted Tale. We will write 2 different forms of poetry: a haiku and acrostic poem. We will write a recount of our time at SkillZone and write instructions alongside using SAM Labs.

In Computing, we will learn to use the coding software called Scratch. We will create a moving animation of a plant growing. In Spring 2, we will use SAM Labs software to create a flip book to show food chains.

In Music, we learn about the different musical elements like tempo, pitch, pulse etc. We will also learn about the musical notations.

In PSHE, we will learn about mental and physical health. We will also learn about personal change.

In the Spring term, our P.E days will be a Monday and Friday. Children will need to come to school wearing their PE kit on these days (they will not change during the school day). Please make sure you wear appropriate clothing for PE such as joggers or shorts (weather dependent). As it gets colder, please make sure your child comes to school in warm PE clothes as we will be outside for most of our lessons.

Homework will be set on Seesaw this term. Children can complete all their homework on Seesaw and send it to me to be approved. Also, you can support us by listening to your child read regularly and helping them learn their times tables and spellings.

Children will receive rewards for completed homework and if an adult signs their link book to let us know they have read at home. They will also receive a raffle ticket and be entered into our reading raffle competition where they can win a prize!

Children can become ‘Maths Champions’ and receive a special pencil when they know all the times tables for their year group: Y3: x2, x10, x5, x3, x4 and x8, Y4: all x tables up to 12 x 12.

We are all looking forward to learning new and interesting things this term.
