Welcome to Falcons class. I'm Miss Bligh and I am the class teacher. Miss Roberts and Miss Gazzard also work in Falcons class.
We will begin the term by focusing on PSHE whilst we settle back into school life. We will be reading ‘Ruby’s Worry’ to teach us how to look after our mental health as well as learning how to take care of our physical health. Also, we will be reading ‘After the Fall – How Humpty Dumpty got back up again’ where we will develop our resilience and growth mindset.
Our topic for the rest of the Autumn term is ‘Traders and Raiders’. We will learn all about the Anglo-Saxons and the Vikings and how they settled in Britain.
In art, we will paint Viking long ships as well as using clay to make Anglo-Saxon brooches. Also, we will design and create an Anglo-Saxon shield.
In music, we will learn Anglo-Saxon and Viking songs. We will begin to use instruments while we sing and start to sing in rounds.
In Computing, we will focus on developing our key skills such as touch typing and saving and opening documents. We will learn about the school network and how to stay safe online.
In science, we will be learning about light and dark.
We will also be learning French this term!
In the Autumn term, our P.E days will be a Tuesday and Wednesday. On these days, please send your children in wearing their P.E kit. We will be doing these lessons outside and so please ensure your children are dressed for the weather (jogging bottoms, jumpers, hoodies etc).
Homework will be set at the start of the term. Children can hand in their completed homework projects at the end of the term or as they finish each task. You can support us by listening to your child read regularly and helping them learn their times tables and spellings.
Children will receive rewards for completed homework and if an adult signs their reading record to let us know they have read at home.
Children can become ‘Maths Champions’ and receive a special pencil when they know all the times tables for their year group: Y3: x2, x10, x5, x3, x4 and x8, Y4: all x tables up to 12 x 12.
Please send you children to school with their own water bottle which is clearly labelled with their name and a coat. Please remember to label all items of school uniform and their coat with your child’s name. Children should not bring their own pencil cases or stationary items to school as these will be provided by the school.
We are all looking forward to learning new and interesting things this term.
