Welcome to Grasshoppers class.
Our whole school topic this term is ‘Extreme Earth.’ The children will meet Paddington Bear who will be travelling to different parts of the world for us to explore. We will also be learning about our bodies and naming body parts. The children will learn about caring for their teeth. We will build on the children’s independence by encouraging skills such as dressing, undressing, and putting coats on. During out creative work the children will be looking at the African artist Atta Kwami and the children will create their own art work.
In English we will be focusing on Paddington Bear, Lost and Found by Oliver Jeffers and The Ugly Five by Julia Donaldson. The children will also be looking at non-fiction texts and will follow instruction texts to make some marmalade sandwiches for Paddington. We will continue learning phonemes using our Read, Write Inc scheme. Please continue to support your child with their reading and phonemes at home. Remember each time your child reads they will receive a shiny.
During our maths work we will continue working on number recognition to 10. The children will also learn about number bonds to 5. The children will also be learning the days of the week and the language of length and height (longer, shorter, taller etc) They will be identifying and creating their own repeating patterns.
PE will continue to take place on Mondays. Our focus this term will be gymnastics where the children will create different shapes with their bodies and explore travelling. Forest School sessions will continue too. If you haven’t already done so please could you provide your child with a set of old clothes to be kept at school. We have a class set of waterproofs and plenty of spare wellies but we have no old clothes if your child gets dirty or wet. They will wear these every week during Forest School sessions. Finally, feel free to come and see a member of the team if you have any questions.
