Welcome to Harriers class, I’m Miss Slater and I am the class teacher. Mr Green and Miss Frowen also work in Harriers class.
Our topic for the Spring Term is ‘Grand Designs’ and throughout the term we will focus on developing our skills, knowledge and understanding in Science, D&T and Computing.
We will begin Spring 1 with an exciting hook day, where children will complete a challenge to design and make a bridge. During the topic, we will learn about electricity and forces and apply this knowledge to making a product. We will use our Computing skills to design, write and debug programmes.
In PHSE, we will use the book ‘The boy, The Mole, The Fox and The Horse’ to explore the themes of kindness, our reactions and comparing ourselves to others.
We will develop our creative skills in Art and Music by learning about great artists, architects, designers, composers and musicians. We will also improvise and compose music to enhance our science-fiction prologue films.
In Literacy, we will write a science-fiction prologue, instructions, poetry and non-fiction. We will also use the book ‘The Boy at the Back of the Class’ to write in a variety of genres and develop our SPaG and descriptive skills. In Numeracy we will focus on developing our multiplication and division skills including algebra and ratio. We will also be covering fractions, decimals, percentages, statistics and geometry.
You will not need to bring your PE kits to school but you can wear your PE kits on Tuesday and Thursday as they are our PE days. All PE will be outside so please make sure you’ll be warm enough.
Homework will be set at the start of the term on Seesaw. Children can upload their work to Seesaw at the end of the term or as they finish each task. If you would prefer a paper copy of the homework please contact the school to arrange this. You can support us by listening to your child read regularly and helping them learn their times tables. Children will receive rewards for completed homework and if an adult signs their link book to let us know they have read at home. Children can become ‘Maths Champions’ and receive a special pencil when they know all the times tables and division facts up to 12x12 and are able to use them to solve a variety of problems.
We are all looking forward to learning new and interesting things this term.
