Ospreys
Welcome to Ospreys class I'm Mr Thomas and I am the class teacher. Mrs Yeates and Miss Roberts also work in Ospreys class.
Our main topic for this term is ‘Temples, Tombs and Tourists’ with the focus being on History. Throughout this topic we will learn about Ancient Egypt. We will learn about what life was like for Eqyptians, mummification, gods and goddesses and the importance of the River Nile and the afterlife.
For our hook for this term, we will have a history day where the children will be introduced to life in Ancient Egypt. They will learn about Hieroglyphics and write their name using the different symbols. They will also become archaeologists and discover artefacts from this time.
Our English units will focus on Ancient Egypt. To begin our unit the children will write a non-chronological report. We will look at traditional tales and learn and write a tale about ‘The Egyptian Cinderella’. We will write a poem based on the River Nile. We will learn a play script and act out the process of mummification. We will also write a recount of when Howard Carter discovered Tutankhamun’s tomb.
In DT we will design, make a shaduf for Egyptians to lift water from the river. In art, we will make Canopic jars out of clay.
In Science, we will learn about electricity and make our own electrical circuits. We will also learn about light and dark.
In PSHE, our focus will be on British Values and the media.
In music, we will learn an Egyptian song to play on the chime bars.
We plan on getting out into the local community more this summer term. We are hoping to visit the church to learn about Pentecost, explore the positives and negatives effects on our local environment and look at traffic to collect data in maths.
In the Summer term, our P.E days are Wednesday and Thursday. Children will need to come to school wearing their PE kit on these days. Please make sure you wear appropriate clothing for PE such as joggers or shorts (weather dependent). We will also be swimming from May 15th to July 15th.
Homework will be set on Seesaw this term. Children can complete all their homework on Seesaw and send it to me to be approved. Also, you can support us by listening to your child read regularly and helping them learn their times tables and spellings.
Children will receive rewards for completed homework and if an adult signs their link book to let us know they have read at home. They will also receive a raffle ticket and be entered into our reading raffle competition where they can win a prize!
Children can become ‘Maths Champions’ and receive a special pencil when they know all the times tables for their year group: Y3: x2, x10, x5, x3, x4 and x8, Y4: all x tables up to 12 x 12.
We are all looking forward to learning new and interesting things this term.
