Forrest View

Welcome to Ospreys class I'm Mr Thomas and I am the class teacher. Mrs Yeates and Miss Roberts also work in Ospreys class.

Our main topic for this term is ‘Extreme Earth’ with the focus being on Geography. In Autumn 1, we will learn about features of a river and understand the devastation that flooding can cause. Also, we will learn about volcanoes and what causes them to erupt. In Autumn 2, we will learn about the human and physical features of Peru and compare these to the UK. Also, we will learn about earthquakes and tsunamis.

For our hook for this term, we will have a geography day where we will introduce our river topic, learn about what a river is, know the features of a river and understand the effects of flooding. We will create a small village to imagine what damage flooding would cause.

Our English units will focus on rivers, volcanoes and earthquakes. We will begin by writing a story based on the text ‘A River’s Journey’. We will write an explanation text about how volcanoes erupt. Also, we will learn a biography of someone who has experienced an earthquake and then have a go at writing our own.

In Computing, we will be using coding programmes like Scratch to create the water cycle. Also, we are using SAM Labs to create instructions on how to make a car and test it on different surfaces.

In Science, we will learn about the different forces and magnets.

In PSHE, our focus will be on physical and mental wellbeing. We will also learn about personal change.

In music, we will learn about the history and genres of music. We will focus on Antonio Vivaldi and listen to his compositions.

In the Spring term, our P.E days are Wednesday and Thursday. Children will need to come to school wearing their PE kit on these days. Please make sure you wear appropriate clothing for PE such as joggers or shorts (weather dependent).

Homework will be set on Seesaw this term. Children can complete all their homework on Seesaw and send it to me to be approved. Also, you can support us by listening to your child read regularly and helping them learn their times tables and spellings.

Children will receive rewards for completed homework and if an adult signs their link book to let us know they have read at home. They will also receive a raffle ticket and be entered into our reading raffle competition where they can win a prize!

Children can become ‘Maths Champions’ and receive a special pencil when they know all the times tables for their year group: Y3: x2, x10, x5, x3, x4 and x8, Y4: all x tables up to 12 x 12.

We are all looking forward to learning new and interesting things this term
