Year 3/4 - Mrs L. Bailey
Welcome to Hawks class. My name is Mrs Bailey and I am the class teacher. Working alongside me in Merlins class is Mrs Powles and Mrs Eagles.
We will start the Autumn term by spending two weeks focusing on British Values. We will be reading the book ‘Atticus Claw breaks the Law’ to understand the rule of law. Also, we will discuss the school rules and how they help keep us safe and happy. We will learn that we need to take responsibly for our own behaviour and except the consequences if we behave badly. We will also discuss how it feels to be angry and how we can learn to control this emotion.
For the Autumn Term our topic will be ‘The Rotten Romans’. We will begin the topic with an exciting hook day, where we will be making Roman shields and learning Roman chants in preparation for our battle. Throughout the term we will be developing our historical skills and knowledge about the Roman Empire. During this topic, we will be visiting the Roman Fortress and Baths in Caerleon.
In Science, we will be looking at different states of matter. We will be identifying solids, liquids and gases and observing how materials can change state. Also, we will look at developing our Growth Mindset approach by focusing on resilience. In Computing, we will be developing our key skills and understanding of what a computer network is.
In the Autumn term, our P.E days will be Wednesday and Friday. It is a good idea if children keep their P.E kits in school at all times as P.E lessons may change due to weather and school commitments.
Homework will be set at the start of the term and children can hand in their completed homework each week or at the end of the term. You can support us by listening to your child read regularly and helping them learn their times tables. Children will receive rewards for completed homework and if an adult signs their link book to let us know they have read at home. Children can become ‘Maths Champions’ and receive a special pencil when they know all the times tables for their year group: Y3; x2, x10, x5, x3, x4 and x8, Y4; all x tables up to 12 x 12.
We are all looking forward to learning new and interesting things this year.
